Nice one Tina...and I still need to know how to trim a wild childs nails :D Bluebell goes ballistic so I need to sit on her  and I've never hurt her doing it...well not up until I sat on her  :- "

I cut my dogs nails with clippers I bought at the vets . They don't like it but they tolerate it :- "

I use mikki nail clippers on my terrier and a metal file one of the ones use for wood small one used other kinds when dog grooming these were the best

I use a dremmel and file them down. They are all used to the noise now and are great with it. I can do all three boys nails in about 15 mins.

clippers for me.........after some brilliant advice on here, about my mental whippet and her nails, i can now do them myself without her going totally mental :)

Ozzy wouldnt tolerate it at all and it stressed him so much, I used to take him to a friend who has a grooming parlour and it took 2 of us to do it :sweating: then I heard of the dremel and now he just stands there while I do his nails (w00t) . He didnt like the noise at first but I just touched his nails once a day every day for a few seconds and it did the trick. I hate the nail thing and used to have a border terrier that had to be sedated to get hers done. Good luck in finding what suits you and your dog.

All the greyhounds and lacey have theres dremiled they just lye on there side on the sofa and i sit on the floor and do them. indy ninnys and ruby and the pup I use clippers on. its took 18 months to get Ruby to let us do her nails or even touch her feet but with lots of patiance and rescue remidy shes okish now but carnt stand the noise of te dremmil.

All of mine except Smidge lie upside down on my lap while I clip their nails (human toenail clippers). I clip little by little until I have them as short as poss, without touching the quick of course. I have never cut one too short, so all the dogs trust me. Smidge on the other hand is a different story. I thought I'd get him used to the Dremel from a young age - he's very defiant, but I made him sit with me - all I ended up doing was scaring him half to death, and now he's nervous when he sees it coming. However if Steve holds him, and I do his nails he's fine, and generally falls asleep while I'm doing them.

OH has a Dremel so I may try it one of these days :D

In the meantime I shall continue with the nail clippers - Sox and Irie are no problem  , Rosie and Ella are suspicious but will tolerate it if held by OH and Jinny does the wall of death until I catch her and then it takes a rugby team to hold her down while I clip her claws (w00t) ........... she's not worried about it, she just thinks it's an incredibly amusing game

I find the gilotine the best for my dog's.Though with plenty of work behind,or in front of the bike, they don't need done too often

you will find it better if you do them after a long walk on hard ground or roadwork.this makes the quik retreat up the nailbed .so making it better to cut the nails.the nervous dogs are tired and easier to do .we do this with pheobe as she hates her nails cut

All mine get done with a dremel with the exception of Zoe . Not because she doesn't like it I am terrified of tangling her coat in with it. William used o hate it and had to be pinned to the floor now he sees the dremel and goes and sits on the chair so I can do them. Button doesn't like it but will tolerate it if she sits on daddies knee

well i didnt know that  grace seems to have long quiks in her nails, even after trimming they look long  i trim all their nails with clippers weekly, but i might try trimming them after a run at the yard on monday  see if i cant get them abit shorter

Raffertys nails grow really quickly so need clipping almost every week, then I dremel the rough edges off. He's used to being done now so is fine. Scrumpy is a real wimp :b & yelps even tho I have never made her nails bleed. She is a bit of a woos. I have tried the dremel on her but she doesn't really like it.

Hebe has never needed her nails clipped ever but she had ripped her dew claws a few times so I do keep them short with a nail file.
