Dogs For Hire ...

Was anyone listening to the Drive Time show on Radio 2 earlier this evening? One of the features was a woman who was on talking about her business which is to hire out dogs to 'members' - membership fee was something like £279 per month (if I remember correctly - tbh by this time I just couldn't believe what I was hearing so I might have made a mistake). The idea is that people who like dogs but don't have the lifestyle to be able to look after one permanently can hire one out for a period of time instead :blink: She said most of the dogs were rescue dogs and that for some members it was a way to 'try before you buy' but I must say I found the whole concept quite disturbing - no matter how sociable or friendly the dogs I can't imagine this would ever be a substitute for a permanent loving home. Did anyone else hear this?

Oh that doesn't sound like a good idea to me either.

Poor dogs wont know where they are surely............

It was on the business slot ... and despite the woman trying to sell the idea as being fine for the dogs who are all specially selected so they are confident and friendly enough so they don't suffer any ill effects :wacko: this didn't really tie in with what she said about them being rescue dogs who have already not had a good start in life and really deserve some kind of stability in their life not being passed from pillar to post. There was no mention of where the dogs lived when they weren't hired out either All in all, quite a horrible business plan if you ask me :angry:

yes i agree yet another money making scheme to profit from exploiting mans best friend. why not take a rescue dog out for a walk rescue centres are always in need of dog walkers especially for long term dogs who have been in kennels for ages.that way the dog would benefit and the person taking the dog out might fall in love with it and want to make a more permanent arrangement.

That's awful. I remember seeing on Animal Planet once that there was a pet library in China, I think. People could hire out rabbits, birds, dogs, cats etc for two weeks at a time, just like you do library books. I do feel sorry for people who can't have pets, but then they should volunteer at the rescue centres and go and walk/groom/play with the homeless pets there.

its all about money and when you have it you can do anything, like hire a pet, £300 a month my kids nursery charges £700 a month thats monday to friday 8am to 5.30pm for them to watch kids. so your paying half of that just for a few hous a week with an animal,

im sure if you wanted to get a pet that badly you could use dog walking service or somthing similar when you were out and would not be more than £300 a month, and then the dog would have a better life than that. or you could see if there are any elderly people in you area who need a hand with their pets,

my gran and grampa has been in fighting health for years but in the last 6months they have both developed heart problems and cant walk for very long or very far luckaly their dog is very old and feels the same way but a kind friend and neighbour comes at lunch time every day to take the dog a proper walk. wouldnt that be a far better idea to do somthing like that?

i dont agree with this type of thing at all, but i sapose there must be a market for it otherwise the person would be out of buisness.
