Hi all,

Does anyone know which beaches are dog friendly in bournemouth area, we know Bournemouth isnt, as last time we went, we were told if we didn't get off we'd have to pay £1000 fine (w00t) , wouldn't mind but it was raining, and we were the only people on it.or if boscombe beach is dog friendly, we want to take ours to the beach, but not sure which we are allowed on. Or on the east coast, dont really mind to much, :D

any help appreciated.

They are allowed on the naturist beach but there is a drawback!

I live in the Bournemouth area and it is really confusing for my dog as one minute he can go on the beach then it is April and he isn't allowed any more. However, from Fisherman's Walk Boscombe they are allowed on the beach up to Hengistbury Head. The walk over Henistbury Head to Mudeford Sand Bank is great too - plenty of rabbits to chase. We also have the New Forest with so many fantastic walks.

If in doubt ask one of the beach inspectors - they are normally quite friendly - it is a shame that all our beaches aren't dog friendly.

What dogs do you have - so I can look out for you.

I haven't walked mine over the head - too paranoid about the snakes, but the beach at Hengistbury Head - going left as you're facing the water - is definitely dog friendly - mostly because it's too stoney/rocky for sunbathers. I'm not sure if this is the same part of the beach that avon is talking about.

There is a path Wendy [where the Noddy Train goes] but not so much fun as going over the head - I try not to think about the snakes there. The beach lately has been taken over by naturists in some parts, bit embarassing when the dog goes to investigate. :- "

I still worry about the snakes (or rather my dogs going off the path and landing on the snakes) even if using the path if the dogs are loose. The last thing I need is to be carrying a dog back who's been bitten. We went out somewhere the other day that was supposed to be snake free and Chelsea managed to find one. We think it was dead, but still -it's scared me again from letting them do too much free running in the summer.

 about the naturists - haven't been over there this year - not been enough time. Probably just as well then ROFL.

Hope i have done this right i have not done the quote thing before

Avon,

I have 4 whippets and a collie x, one of my whippets is only 14 weeks fawn girl.

I'm not so sure about the snakes! either Wendy, but may be better than the naturists! (w00t) not sure what would be worse inquisitive whippets or laughing teenagers

Is that the only dog friendly beach boscombe down there now?, its a shame there arn't more, we usually go down out of season, but caught out last time, and didn't want to make the same mistake, We do go to the New forest usually Burley, we like it round there.

Thankyou all for help :))

 dont know why my quote isnt in box :- " is all trial and error for me at the moment (w00t)

There's a thread from a couple of months ago that might be helpful for you: dogs allowed on beaches thread - click me

scroll through to page 3 and there's a fair bit of Dorset-specific info if you're prepared to trip across the ferry at Sandbanks

Not sure if you mean Studland or not, but over there the naturists have been there for decades, the area is well signposted and historically naturism there has been very innocent and family-friendly... but I think quite a bit of "cruising" and "dogging" has gone on recently (w00t) the police have had a crackdown but even so, don't let your kids wander into the dunes on Studland  they might see more than they bargained for  :b

It is not any better here in Australia; this is our beach, 1/2mile from my house

Ok, it was taken yesterday, midle of winter and raining. But this beach only gets crowded late in the afternoon and evening on very hot day. Yet dogs are not allowed of the leash, ever! They are not allowed at all in daytime between 9.30am and 7pm.

Look right

Thanks Helen, i have just had a look at link, i will watch out for the kids, thanks for that. Its not easy finding somewhere is it (w00t)

Lida - I'm wondering if you're understanding the term 'naturist' or if it's *me* not getting the connection.

A Naturist is someone who wears only what nature gave them.

When you go down the path there are more sign telling you what you are not allowed to do; such like diving and jumping into the water are fair enough, but i could not work out why you would not be allowed to bring your lawn mower???? Until I realised it actually is baby pusher!

Thankfully, the next municipality has a dog beach, where dogs are allowed off the leash. however in the summer they are not allowed in the daytime either. Somebody up there has not caught up with the fact that Ozzies afe concerned about skin cancer and do not spend their days on the beach any more. :(

Lida

oh, but Wendy - can you imagine some of those signs if we had them on Studland??? lol! "No dogging" and "No Cruising"   :clown:

Oh Man!! At which point I'm assuming you can't even actually walk on the beach. ROFL about the lawn mower!!!

Talk about restrictive - I'll take no dogs for 5 months of the year after all (I'm thinking now your posts didn't have anything really to do with the naturists - just the lack of dog friendly beaches  )

ROFLMBO!!!! My dogs are looking at me strangely because I'm in hysterics.

Have I asked before where you are btw? We should get together with the whippies if you're in the area.
