Whilst I am aware that a dog licking its lips can be a sign of anxiety, our Lab occasionally has a five minute or so session most days. No way is she worried by anything or anybody. She is content and much loved and very laid back! Any thoughts folks?

All I'd say is humans never know what makes a dog anxious so don't totally discount it. I'm still noting things that mine don't appreciate! Otherwise any mouth/teeth/gum problem?

Merlina. Thanks for your reply. I would be surprised if she had any problem with the areas that you have mentioned. Her breath smells healthy. She has seen the vet a few times of late with another issue and they are happy with her.

It can also indicate pain, did the vet check anywhere else? Or it might just be a habit?

If I was a betting man i would go for habit. It's only occasional. As she is rescued, we wonder if her previous life has any relevance. She is so happy and almost always has a smile on her face.
