Dog friendly holiday's

As were not going away as such this year, my partner has suggested we go away for a few days to Wales with Oreo.

We were thinking wales as its fairly close ish and a good distance to see how Oreo copes with a long drive.

Can anyone suggest a noce dog friendly area maybe near a beach and also can anyone recommend a dog friendly cottage or hotel company to use?

Maybe we could use this thread to add dog friendly places you've been to and would recommend? Just for members to refer to?

I am not familiar with the area... although we generally go to the Isle of Wight every year, we leave the ruffers with James' parents....

We go to Sarnfaen Holiday Park they allow dogs, it is down the road from Barmouth which has a fab beach. (various parts of beach and time off year allow dogs). Alot of the cafes allow dogs. The caravan park was lovely and the caravan was new and immaculate, staff very friendly. There was a small shop, cafe, sauna and pool on site. Further down the road was access to a beach with more restaurants, fish & chip bar. It was all very nice and well kept. My aunt found the site and booked us in with our foster dog at the time. we are going back this year.

Ebeneezers Coffee shop & restaurant was fab and dog friendly. The Harbour Bar does great fish and chips and Davy Jones Locker was good for toasties and such like and if you like ice cream knickerbockers parlour is the best. There is loads to do surrounding if you prefer to drive out a bit.

I know you are going to Wales but for general info we went to Cornwall a few years ago with 3 dogs and it was amazing how many places the dogs were allowed and even accomodated for with bowls of water and poo bags supplied, certain beaches are dog free at certain times of year but there were plenty of others where they could run. I even took mine to a water park place with seals and sealions etc and the dogs were allowed everywhere!! This may be normal in some places I dont know but where I live in Scotland not many places are dog friendly.

My sister takes her dog on lots of holidays - often to cottages in Wales. I think she uses the site mentioned above!

Dogs Trust recommend lots of dog friendly cottages across the uk where pets go free.

Again, I know you are going to Wales but just for info if anyone is interested The Bay near Filey is good to go with dogs. Apartments and cottages with direct access to the beach and a dog friendly pub. Dogs don't go free though

Most of the holiday cottage places allow you to do a search only for places where pets are allowed. We don't generally go to Wales (mainly because my OH is originally from north Wales and so he doesn't think of it as a holiday) but every company we've used allows a targeted search for appropriate places.

Our favourite area to visit is the North East, up the coast from Whitby to the Scottish borders. We've never had any problems finding things to do with the hound up there, whereas in Linconshire (Skeggy and around about) there are very few places for doggy exercise apart from small areas of beach and all of the parks, recreational grounds and the like that we could find were marked as not allowing dogs.

When we were in Lincolnshire we even went as far as buying OS maps to find areas that weren't planted up as arable crops to exercise her in, but found that even most of the patches of woodland are inaccessible for one reason or another, so they're happy for dogs on a lead, but finding anywhere for offlead running is really hard work.
