Diarrhea with some blood

I have a 1 year old white German Shepherd. Shes been having watery stools for 2 days now, which started having some red. Shes had it before but it has always gone away after not long, but I have never seen what looks like blood before. Im really worried about her now, does she need to be seen by a vet or could it go back to normal?

Yes, blood in her poo could be caused by several different things (including bacterial or viral infections which would have different treatments) so best to see a vet. Remember to take along a sample of her poo.

GSD's are prone to bowel problems. As there is blood present, best thing to do is get her checked by a vet.

You may have to look after her tummy all the time. Find out if she is sensitive to certain foodstuffs. Is she affected by stress etc? Vets often recommend chicken and rice for 3-4 days to settle things down. Egg and rice is good too. Brown rice is better than white. I have found that natural yoghurt every day is useful. Just a dessertspoonful for maintenance.

Wet green tripe is very good to help tummy upsets.

Raw or cooked chicken and "natural" live yoghurt can also help. If you use rice it must be very well cooked and stodgy (economy rice is fine) do not wash the stodge out when cooked.
