DERRY

Derry is a 4 year old greyhound lad. He has a sleek, black coat that will be stunningly shiny once he gains some condition.

Derry is a newcomer to our kennels and we are still assessing his personality. So far he has been a lovely, no-hassle fellow who is fast learning to enjoy his daily cuddles. We will update with more info on Derry once we get to know him a bit better, but potential adopters are free to make an enquiry now.

Derry has not been outside of racing kennels, so he will need owners who are understanding and patient at the start and allow him time to settle in to the home life. Once he does, he's sure to adore the home comforts! Derry has not yet been tested with cats or small dogs, but these can be arranged prior to adoption if needed.

**UPDATE 07/2010**

Derry is now well settled in our Irish kennels and is comfortable with the routine. He is a lovely boy who likes being out and about and is well behaved with people and other dogs alike. He is a quiet boy who, though not timid, is happy to stand to the side and watch proceedings. As such he is easily overlooked and we would like to get him in to a foster home as soon as possible so that with lots of love and affection his real personality can start to shine through.

Derry was lucky enough to take part in the Kerry Greyhound Connection annual sponsored walk recently and greatly enjoyed his day away from the kennels. He was brilliantly behaved with the large crowds of people and other dogs.

Like most greyhounds, Derry will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Derry is currently in kennels in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Derry, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our information pack and adoption questionnaire. Thanks!
