Dentist offers online check-ups

A London dentist is giving patients check-ups - over the internet.

Jerry Watson examines their teeth via webcam and decides if he needs to see them in person, reports The Sun.

The patients still have to go to a clinic to be filmed and have a £50 clean by a hygienist at the same time.

Dr Watson, who is expanding his Toothplace clinic to 20 more UK sites this summer, says it means he can monitor patients at four clinics at once.

And he believes the technology could ultimately mean people getting a check-up at home.

He said: "There's no reason people couldn't get seen from home if they've a high-quality camera.

"What we need for the future is cameras in electric toothbrushes. That would be fantastic."

Hmmm he can monitor 4 clinics at once and generate 4x the revenue he usually does. :- "

Think he's setting himself up for a whole pile of law suits, seeing as though gingival probing, tooth trans-illumination, probing for decay, probing filling margins, probing for sub-gingival calculus and a whole pile of etceteras are part of a routine mouth exam. I'd also be interested in how efficient they'd be at diagnosing an oral cancer from a routine mouth ulcer.

As Pepa says, only with slightly more effort.
