Hi all, I thought some of you may be interested in an update on the lovely Dash He is settling in really well here in Oxfordshire and by chance a local dog trainer asked if she could hold her classes here on our farm so we have no way of getting out of it now She does mainly agility which is fab because I said from the start I'd like to try agility to give his brain a workout as well as his legs lol. Anyway, we did our first session this week which was more of an obedience class but using some of the agility kit to give the exercises some purpose if you see what I mean, and Dash took to it like a duck to water - he particularly likes going through the tunnel (probably thinks he will find a giant rabbit in there  ) and his recall was perfect throughout i am so proud of him!
In fact he has been really easy to have around in general and will do a regular rabbit / squirrel / pheasant patrol round the farm every day but the best bit is he always comes back to check in with me every 10 minutes or so which means that even if he beggars off after a bunny I have the confidence that he will come back afterwards. (So far his tally is one pheasant and 2 rabbits - if he carries on like this I will switch to BARF and he can be self sufficient )
Apart from one rather scary incident with my horse (he chased, she literally ran over the top of him, he came away with just a cut and hasn't been near them since!) he has been very good with the livestock and, get this, if he is charging towards the cattle I can shout "Steady" and he will drop back to a walk for me!!!!!! He also knows "Out of the field" when I'm about to turn the horses out and if I say "this way" and point he will change direction! On the other hand, he still looks pained when I ask him to "sit" or "lie down" and "Stay" is a complete mystery to him but, hey, you can't have everything straight away.
I'm hoping to get to the Charity Show at Enstone airfield on Sunday so I may see a few of you there?? Who knows, we may be brave enough to try some coursing.......
