Hi Everyone

First time posting so apologies for any errors!

Our 10 year old Gordon setter has developed lameness in her right back leg. We took her to the vets who were pretty certain it was torn cruciate ligament but that they would need to do x-ray to confirm. She has muscle waste on that side due to what appears to be reduced usage (she's such a trooper of a dog she is so bad at letting us know she is in pain so suspect it has been bad for a while and she has just compensated).
We had the x-ray but vet said it did not conclusively indicate the torn ligament as expected. There was no sign of fluid around the joint. She said she is very stiff in her back and hips but no sign of arthritis either.
She suggested we carry on with pain relief and light exercise but if it still doesn't improve further CT scan.
So my query really is has anyone else had a dog go lame with no apparent cause. The vet has suggested if it's not ligament then it's possibly something like bone cancer or neurological tumour.
I think I'm a bit confused as it was presented that the x-ray would definitively prove one way or another about the tear but the vet now it very much vague about the whole thing. I feel we would have gone straight to a CT scan if there was any questions of anything else but the Vet was so sure it was the ligament and x-ray was just to confirm.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar or any thoughts? We're going back to the vets next week.
Thanks

My dog ruptured his, while we were on holiday. The vet there x-rayed it and diagnosed it. Our own vet x-rayed again, to get precise measurements for the titanium plate that was to be used in the repair. So I would have thought that if x-rays are detailed enough for that, they should be detailed enough to diagnose one way or another. I'm not a vet of course, but that seems logical.

Your vet sounds very sensible and IMO has given good advice.
