My whippet puppy age 12wks bites and runs wild 8.30pm every night, she gets quite aggressive biting and growling at mself and my husband the rest of the time she is very affectionate please help
 
Hi, My two the same age do this, its the "mad" hour. They do grow out of it, she shouldn't be allowed to bite you, just yelp loudly if she does. Give her plenty of toys and just let her run mad.

she is 12 weeks old thats what puppies do
 
at 8 pm take her either out for a walk if her vaccinations are complete or have a real good game with her to tire her out , this way she may be less crazy at 8.30pm .

puppies are mad and they do have a mad half hour but as said she shouldnt bite you , try to play a game with her and some exciting toys so she actually plays with you and not use you as a teething toy (w00t)
 
Merlin our first whippet done this too, we wondered what on earth was happening when at the same time every night he tore around the house like a demented, out of control lunatic - we used to call it his 'exorcist' time - he did grow out of it. Good luck.
 
My daughters toy poodle puppy is the same he has a nap come 8.30 hes running around the house trying to get the covers off the chair,pinching the sippers :D we don't mind as you say he's a puppy and puppys play and do mad things,my whippet girl just looks at him as if to say here we go again :lol:
 
My are not puppies anymore and their mad hour is between 4-5 pm :)

Pups need to bite. Especially while they cut their permanent teeth. If she is too rough with you, hold a stuffed or rubber toy and let her to bite on that instead. If she gets too excited, try to calm her down. Holding her, stroking her gently, speaking in calming voice and if necessary hold her muzzle shut for few seconds usually does the trick.

Its the demented whippet phase... :lol: :lol:

Most puppies do this, I would just discourage with a strong NO... They are quick learners and soon get to know whats acceptable and whats not...

they are just playful at this age... :huggles: ..lots of chewy toys and raggers..and treats for good behaviour.

Grace went through this phase too at about 12 weeks - I found it really difficult! It was as though she was demented, and she'd bite me quite painfully. For a while I'd have to wear thick gloves before we went to bed. A trainer suggested that it was when she was overtired, and it seemed as though she couldn't find her 'off' switch. It helped to put her in a playpen for a short while until she calmed down, but it wasn't until I did some crate training with her that she learned to switch off more easily. They do get through it eventually, and as someone else said it helps to be as calm with them as you can manage (in spite of the temptation to put them in a strait jacket!). If I gave in to the temptation to shout it only made her worse. Good luck!
 
Agree with what's already been said - they do have a mad hour usually before they switch off permanently for the night :)) .

Garden works best for me so they can bite at all the 'toys' out there - my plants, twigs, grass, jump in and out of the bushes snarling at the monsters and so on :D . They do grow out of it but my 4 month old still looks for a 'fight' with my 3 year old when she needs to burn off some energy and when calming herself down afterwards I find giving her a chew to take it out on helps :lol:

Just stand back and enjoy the fun :lol:
 
Poppy is just the same, I take her and Milly out for their last walk at 8 ish then when we get back Poppy runs around the house going mad growling at anything then just flops on the sette and goes to sleep. That's Whippet pups.
 
My lot are having a mad 1/2 hour now and its 5.20 in the morning :oops:
 
Would agree with everyone else- it's a puppy thing and she should grow out of it! o:)

Just a thought- what time do you feed her, and what type of food is she fed? It's just that, as she goes mad at the same time every day, it's possible that she could be reacting to something in her dinner, if the food contains any artificial colourings or preservatives :blink:

hi this is really useful! my whippet is similar age and doing the same also at other times of day too. usually when tired. like a toddler i suppose that doesn't know it's tired. She also digs madly at the sofa as if demented. often looks like her paws might catch fire if we didn't stop her! :wacko: what's that all about? is she trying to get comfy, she gets quite cross and often barks.

P.S new to this site

are there any whippet things that go on in Berkshire or nearby?

Poppy does this too, mad mad mad!!

She doesn't bite me, she wouldn't dare, cos I'm the boss!

But she really goes for my OH and legs it around the place, it is quite funny really!

Trying to discourage her from biting too much because it does hurt.

We tend to say no firmly and if it gets out of hand I get her to lie in her bed for a minute.

But I think its a puppy thing and I kinda hope she grows out of the biting but not the madness cos sometimes she makes us laugh so much I'm nearly crying!

Oh also wanted to add that she barks and makes this kinda rororo noise if we aren't paying her enough attention! Its like she is saying 'Oi you pair why arent you playing with me come here now!'

I can't believe how much Poppy looks like our Lentil. Lentil is 4.5 months. She also makes that funny noise. She's losing teeth like mad at the moment so she's really bitey. Mostly her toys but she gets your toes its sooooo painful!!

But you're right they're so cute you half don't want them to grow up too much.

I'm still not very familiar with the way this site works but will try to put photo on.
