:) Calling all Whippet Owners in and around Nottingham. On Saturday, 18th October a Companion Dog Show is being held to raise funds for the Maresa MacKeith Study Fund. Maresa is 18 years old and has the severest form of Cerebral Palsy which also means she is unable to speak. This does not, however, detract from the fact that she is academically brilliant. Maresa, after having gained GCSE's and A levels at top grades is applying to go to Nottingham Trent University. So that she can study comfortably she needs to raise £8,000 to build an extension onto the home that she shares with her mum and a team of personal assistants. As Maresa is unable to work in the usual sense of the word, we are trying to help her raise as much as we can. She is also in the process of applying for grant funding, but for some has to show that she can make a financial contribution herself.

:D We have classes on for Lurchers and Working Terrier. If you would like more details please contact me. The venue is Harvey Hadden Stadium on Wigman Road, Bilborough, a popular dog show venue. It will be outside and there is lots of parking.

:D As there are no open shows around that day, by joining us it will save you all from having withdrawal symptons, plus there are lots of specials for you to win.

Leaflets will be at open shows etc in the run up to the date.

Hoping to see lots of you there.

What time does it start? and can you give us a list of classes and the judge(s) ,I will not be going to any shows where I will be able to pick up info.Ta :D is the girl local to Nottingham?(not that it matters)

They used to be called Exemption Shows. You turn up and enter on the day for fun. There are usually a few pedigree classes such as AV Pedigree Sporting, Non-sporting, Puppy, Open and then a Pedigree BIS. After that there are usually novelty classes like prettiest bitch, fancy dress, best condition dog and stuff like that.

It's a great day out, raises money for charity, and best of all even your non-pedigree dogs can enter and win something.

:D Hi Jax, the judge is Mr Maurice Bellamy of the Wilmaleen Whippets and Italian Greyhounds. Entries will be taken from 11.30am and judging starts at 1.30pm. Classes are: AV Minor Puppy, AV Puppy, AV Sporting, AV Non-Sporting, AV Veteran, AV Open, Best 6 Legs, Waggiest Tail, Handsomest Dog, Prettiest Bitch, "Babe" Lookalike, Dog Judge would like to take home, Childrens Handling, Best Fancy Dress, Fastest Recall for dogs under 20 inches and over 20 inches, best Cross breed. Special classes for other running dogs will be decided on the day should enough turn up! There is £25 for best Pedigree and £10 for best overall novelty.

Maresa is a local girl, she lives just one minute away from the Harvey Hadden Stadium. She recently had a programme made about her by Carlton TV which was shown on 14th August, called Changing Attitudes. We are trying to see if Carlton will give coverage to it as it does go on to show the start of the next chapter in Maresa's life, so you never know, we might all be on the tele!

Hope you can come and encourage as many others to come as you can. Everyone will be most welcome.
