Well our tree is up on the firm understanding that if George tries to eat it it goes back into the loft.. So far so good, it seems the baubles dont smell of anything edible so hes leaving them alone!

How do your dogs (and other pets) cope with the decorations?

I'm dreading putting my tree up so I'm leaving it till Sunday, Oliver and Rolo think it's just a really big toy to play with! So I usually end up taking it down early as they drive me crazy lol

Tom used to pee up the real tree so we bought an expensive artificial one and he takes no notice ...
I make sure i dont hang anything on the lower branches ;)

We always have a real tree which Dennis takes no notice of.
He does have a habit of wagging his tail right next to it though o_O

LOL ...Max, our Bovier x St bernard used to do that, he would see us taking a picture of the tree and to make sure he was in shot he would back up into it and then wag, but a huge 60kilo dog wagging a whole Christmas tree is not a safe sight!

We put our Christmas tree up yesterday we have small red Christmas stockings which i fill with sweets oops i put one to low and Edie took it off the tree along with a bauble

Even the star at the top of our tree would be too low to deter Jasper if it smelt of food!

The dog is really good around our tree, even ignores the sweets that are placed on the higher branches. This is quite out of character for him as usually any food left in his reach is gone within the blink of an eye!

We also find that a wagging tail can wipe out all the baubles from the lower branches and later on remove all the pine needles when the tree starts to drop.

I have not been very organised this year as I have yet to buy the tree or put up any decorations. Last year I bought a beautiful tree: the perfect shape. Unfortunately, it was home to a colony of tiny beetles which spent Christmas migrating across the living room floor:(

Be careful buying a real tree ...one woman had a infestation of flies that had hibernated in the tree and the warmth of the house bought a mass out flying aro6...Yuk :confused:o_O
We bought an expensive artificial tree 2 yrs ago..it actually looks and feels real;)

Ah, but does it smell real?

Though we did find some Xmas-tree-scent sticks you can dangle from the tree that smell very realistic. I've thought about a plastic tree, mainly because of the needle drop with the standard Norway spruce. I usually find a lot of needles hidden in corners when I'm having my big clean-up just before the next Xmas...

On no…I’m going to be paranoid now. I will be manically shaking all the Christmas trees before buying:D
Several years ago, trying to be a little more environmentally friendly, I bought a rooted Christmas tree in a pot. Lovingly cared for it the following spring and summer and brought it back into the house to decorate. A few days later I discovered it had dropped sap everywhere – the presents under the tree all had to be wrapped again!

These flies had bored holes in the trunk of the tree so couldn't be shaken out ...
o_O:rolleyes:

My dog doesn't look at the tree or decorations at all....However, leave a piece of paper lying and it will be eaten!

I invested in a real looking nordmann spar about 8 years ago. It had a 10 year warrenty on it and I worked out that if I paid €20 a year for a tree I would be quits round about now..
The tree still looks good and I pack it away each year with cinnamon sticks and a tree scented smelly thing so each year when I open the box the smells of Christmas come wafting out at me.
Our reason for investing in the fake tree was Basil (our parrot) I read how dangerous real trees could be for birds and decided the risk wasnt worth it ... One trip to the vet would cost way more than the fake tree did anyway!

Quite a few years ago we got a large, fairly realistic looking, fibre optic tree. No idea about smell as smells don't really exist for me. But I like it, get it out, fold the branches down, stand it on its base, plug in and switch on and the branch ends light up all twinkling. So job done with min fuss.
