We got our first Xmas card yesterday - or was it Friday   Loads of people around us have got their dec's up now, but we're holding out til next weekend o:)

That's brill Jan, wish someone would tell me where to get things like that.

And yes we've got our decorations up, only because no. 1 Grandson, Adam insisted as his Mum and Dad have got theirs up too! Karolynne loves Christmas so she does everything on the dot (or earlier if she could). So this year we have the usual garlands and stuff all tastefully supervised by Adam, who I heard telling his Opa, "No Opa, not there, put it over there" And dutifully Opa obliged (besotted doesn't enter into it) plus Santa and Reindeers sledging across the window in flashing lights and a Santa in the other window which is one of those fibre optic things, donated by Karolynne who had bought some more new ones and told me, "There you go, Mother, you can put these up in your house". So Mother (me) did as I was told also.

Totally agree, thought I was alone!! I am the only one that I can see in my road that hasn't got the decorations up!

Jan,

Is your husband German? Can't help being nosey...noticed he is called Opa which is German for grandad.

:- " Ooo Nicola, wash your mouth out with soap! Just joking.

Pedro is from Belgium, and is Flemish (I get told off if I don't say that). The word is the same but Flemish people (allegedly) don't like being mentioned in the same sentence as those people in the country you spoke of! That's the gospel according to my dearly beloved. Talk about touchy. Still as long as he keeps doing the cooking - and shopping, he can be as touchy about it as he likes. Mustn't forget about the cleaning, just can't quite get him into the hang of the washing and ironing yet. There's still time though cos we've only been married 10 years. Yes being a kept woman is a bit of ok, just wish I had the dosh to go with it!

Oh well...I'm half German.....best not to tell your other half you're talking with the enemy

Does he do genuine Flemish cooking? Do you celebrate Christmas Eve rather than Christmas day? Getting curious about Flemish traditions now whilst we're on the Christmas theme.
