Hi All,

My 4 month old pup is always trying to eat the grout between our floor and wall tile she scrapes at it with her bottom teeth, also if she is in the garden she does it with the patio tiles.

We are obviously worried it will damage her teeth  or start wearing them away, has anyone else had this??? we are always trying to distract her from it, with toys chews, bones etc. but its like she is on a mission.

She is terrible for eating anything and everything, mud stones etc, but this seems to be the most difficult to stop.

Anyone else out there with this?? or similar, did wonder if there was something in thats added to it, making her want to eat it?

Mine all did it on my stone fireplace (w00t) and stones, she might be teething try giving her some frozen apple or something like that, I found the only way to stop it was to keep moving them away and they grew out of it after a bit

All my pups have eaten bits of the concrete holding my fireplace together . it feels like a family tradition , 8) I stop them of course , ;) I thought it might be some mineral they were after

Yep, all mine go through a stage of trying to eat the brickwork, I generally give them some calcium tablets to munch on and they soon stop eating the house - do not know if there is a connection???

Mine prefer soil, stones, table legs, wicker baskets (a particular favourite,) skirting boards, loo rolls .......the list is endless, they even seem to prefer them to a big chunky marrow bone!!! They do grow out of it - they then turn there attention to cow pats and horses douvers etc!!!

I think there are salty minerals in the morter that they like, its a common puppy thing but I stop mine else it could just become a habit. Horses have salt licks Im not sure why we dont have the same sort of thing for canines?

Thanks everyone, i did wonder if there was something in it that she needed, i hope she does grow out of it soon. I will have to try a few supplements and see if she stops it. She has her lovely new teeth coming through, dont wnt her to be all gummy with worn away teeth!! :(

Hi Sunny, Ella also likes the odd bit of stone but not much real food :- " How many new teeth has she got now ? I was hoping to put a baby tooth under her bed for a treat from the fairies but can't find any, think she must swallow them !

What does your little girl weigh now ? getting ours weighed tomorrow. Have yougot any more photos ?haven't seen her for a while :huggles:
