Canals, Cuttings And Cornfields

I was down Warwickshire way this weekend visiting family. Before I left for home today we went for a stroll along a local countryside canal. It's one of our favourite short stretches and just right for Fred.

I've posted some very similar photos before, but hey, what's a little bit of repetition?

Keep up at the back! (why does my mum's outfit remind me of Stan?)

Some pleasant rural scenes along the way:

Nothing as colourful as a narrowboat..

A mother duck out with her young brood (not very sharp)

Canalboats drifting by... Fred rather oblivious...

Past cornfields....the light was moving up the field here...

We don't have to walk along here do we...Fred blending in with the corn (or is it wheat?)..

A view to the cement works in Rugby..... :teehee:

A short walk, but one enjoyed by all......then back home to Derbyshire.

Stan made me laugh in his harness, my girls would be the

same, in fact they wouldn't think twice about jumping in the

canal......waters water to them :blink:

Love your pics of the canal...I had my first whippy when I was studying at Staffordhire University, and we lived near the canal, we had many happy walks along the towpath ) Isis always went in the canal, so much so that I had recurring nightmares that she had fallen into a lock and was about to be swallowed by a giant pike, lol!! :blink:

His harness was a lifesaver for him many years ago. :sweating: He walked over the towpath edge, fell into the canal, and proceeded to sink. He couldn't swim. (w00t) I managed to grab him by his harness as he bobbed back to the surface. He's fine with water where he can wade out to his stomach but won't go any deeper than that. It's odd with canals, he just doesn't seem to realise where the land ends and the water starts

Thanks Janis, we both agreed how nice it was to get out for a walk in the country...it's a good way to forget your worries for a while. :thumbsup:

I used to think that Jane, but we have one near us in the Peak District too, Castleton cement works, and it's become almost iconic with some, especially photographers. I quite like them now.... (w00t)

You were not far from where I live now, and a few years ago we lived in a village very near to Rugby so the cement works are a familiar sight!!

Lovely photos as usuall Nicola I agree the cement works is a blot on the landscape. Why do the insist on building such ugly buildings in the middle of such beautiful country side.

I walk my whippies along the canal in Staffordshire. Mine are confined to flexi leads though as the part I walk along h

as the canal on one side of you and a busy duel carriageway on the other side :unsure:
