Can Whippets Catch Colds???

Hi there

Wondering if anyone can offer any advice.

Blue (now 6 months old) has been sniffiling a bit over the weekend - I don't know if dogs can catch colds or if there is perhaps some other reason for his symptoms.

Our other dog Oscar seems to be fine and I have only really heard Blue sneeze a couple of times. Maybe I am just being an over protective mother, but I would not like to take the chance if he is ill.

Dogs in general don't get colds, but my husband had that Asian Flu about 10 years ago, and one by one our dogs started with runny noses. They weren't ill at all, but just snuffly, and sometimes when they were sleeping their noses would drip. It only lasted a few days. I asked the vets I worked for, and they were in no doubt that although it's said that dogs don't get colds, they could have the same sort of reaction from a virus. Hope this helps.
