gorgeous puppy and lovely rats ,, we have rats too :wub:

they make great pets dont you think (w00t)

my dogs would eat them though im afraid :b
 
Rats are great pets, far better than hamsters. We are hoping like ferrets if you introduce them young enough they will be OK. We are being careful though I wouldnt turn my back on them. We needed to get the rats out they were feeling neglected. After a couple of minutes of the puppies with them we had to remove them as the rats have NO fear!.
 
lol 2 of my dogs were older when i got them so past the interaction stage (w00t)

my kids walk round with them on their necks ,, i love em !!!

much friendlier and more handlable than most other rodents

I should think they'll be ok. When ours was a youngster and we brought the odd chicken or duck inside he would go absolutely mad trying to get at it. It didn't take very long before he realised they were 'part of the family' and shouldn't be chased. I used to leave him in the garden with them in case a fox came by, which was very handy until he discovered an escape route to nextdoor's bins. :b
 
Awwww what lovely pics, I think it's very much like cats isn't it if they see things in their environment when they are puppies they know that they are normal place so to speak, mine sniff the cat but don't bother her I think they get used to it :thumbsup:

I too wouldn't leave them unsupervised either because the puppy will probably try to get in the place the rats can and they don't always realise they don't fit do they, I have had to rescue mine a few times from the back of the couch after they've followed the cat :lol:
 
They're great together, when Tess was a puppy she would play with my rats on the sofa for hours and even now, though she's too big to really play with them she lets them run all over her. but this doesn't stop her wantsing to kill "real" ones.

:'( :'( :'( I just had my last rat Joan PTS yesterday, she was quite old for a rat and her back legs weren't working properly.

Isn't it strange how attached you can get to them. I spent a large part of yesterday crying.
 
i also had a pair of rats who were great with our dogs, sadly marni was pts at xmas, and minki after that got depressed and never came out of her cage- till one day i made her and discovered she was being eaten by lice- so sad. I cried all day too! And they're both at bottom of garden together, sad rat story :b

Lovely puppy and super rats. :thumbsup: Our first dog lived with a houserabbit and he is still good with our pet rabbits now. I'm sure your pup will be fine with the ratties.

Oh go on you could have Joans cage, then I wouldn't have make the decision :'( :'( what to do with it and I could still have some ratty love :wub:
 
No, I'm trying to be firm. My mother's weak heart will probably not stand the sight of two whippets and a large rat cage descending for in a future Xmas :sweating: I'm being very good at the moment, I've only acquired 3 new birds this year as well, we have a managable quantity now, well almost :oops:

I have always wanted a rat ( 2 is better (w00t) ). OH says NO WAY. Mind you he said 1 dog and I now have 4 and a litter of pups. :lol: . I don't think he'll give in on the rat front thou.

I did have one for a day, he had been rescued from a certain future in the Formalin tank/dissection by my Biology teacher. I took him home and unsurprisingly my parents said 'no way' :'( Plus the late lamented Joan for a couple of nights. That's no counting the many that keep invading my poultry yard :- "
