I’m from Africa to be precise (GH) and there are mosquitoes in most parts of the states. They are normally seen at night In the dark areas. if you stay outside for longer hours without protective clothing you will be bitten by this insects. I know dogs have furs which covers most parts of their body but I also know some body parts have less fur. So in this case if a dog is bitten at night by a mosquito, can the dog get infected with malaria.

You might be best asking a local vet, as they'll be familiar with the parasites in your area and be able to advise on prevention.

To be honest I don't know a lot about it because I'm in Scotland, where we don't have mosquitoes; however when we take our dog abroad we use a different parasite protection from at home for the additional cover.

And, on further reading while trying to look it up for you, apparently it is transmitted by sandflies, which are similar to mosquitoes but not the same.

Sorry for the misleading information.

Thanks for at least making an effort to look it up for me. I appreciate

I agree with the advice to consult a local vet. Google searches on malaria in dogs are difficult as they are nearly all about sniffer dogs detecting malaria in humans. I have used my university's search engine to find a peer reviewed paper on canine malaria. I could not find one but several on malaria that mentioned that the consensus is that dogs cannot get malaria but there have been (unsubstantiated) reports of it in Egypt and India.
