Does anyone know of any rules and regs that govern buying a whippet in Ireland to bring back to the UK? Does anyone have any experience of this and are there any good dogs recommended from the Emerald isle!

well, i wouldn't claim to be the world authority on this but.........

My whippy Digit came from ireland, and he was just popped on the ferry and brought over for me!

he's a collooney boy - i don't know if they have any pups available right now - but if they do    Collooney kennels

My dogs are all Barnesmore's and they too bought them over for me on a ferry .

That is with the exception of Tegan who was flown over from one of the Belfast airports to Manchester where I pick here up from the cargo area I was told to fly they have to be at least 12 weeks if they fly on their own but could be a little young if you flew with them .This was about 3 years ago so may have changed since then

Mine too came over on the ferry, mines Collooney

I'm from Ireland and we have brought puppies over to their new homes by ferry. There are no rules like pet passport etc from here to mainland UK. Most of the breeders from here show throughout the UK and it's normal to arrange to have a puppy brought over when travelling over to attend a show. Most folk will try to meet up somewhere along the journey route.

Thanks for info,it doesnt seem as difficult as we thought it might be! We are over in Dublin at the end of the month, but dont think there will be enough time to look for a pup and sample the whisky as well :D We hope to look for a pup nearer the summer time, will check your website out, thanks, rob

is anyone there interested in an Irish rescue dog?

I was browsing Irish pounds today

in County Armagh, municipal pound which would put kill dogs after a short period, there is at present listed

ref no 6929 lurcher - looks whippet like - in Portadown

6948 pup - maybe lurcher?, can't tell size - in Portadown

6909 greyhound in Donacloney

http://www.craigavon.gov.uk/environment/eStrays.asp

and www.irishanimals.com currently lists three whippet crosses in various animal shelters in Ireland, plus loads of lurchers and greyhounds
