my daughter is looking for a broadband provider/package-

tiscali seems ok on paper-

anyone know any different please?

No problem with the service. I was on it for a year with my old company

Only issue I had was that they don't supply "real" invoices - the old fashioned ones that come through the post! Everything is done on-line.

Also the call centre is in Delhi (w00t) and I couldn't understand what they were saying half the time

I've been on Tiscali for years, no problems really, went off line on and off for a few days last year, but that's it after 6 years of service.

No! No! No! (w00t)

We've had terrible trouble with them for the last year and I've heard of other people who have had problems too. They appear to be fine until something goes wrong and then the communication is atrocious. Our situation ended in our phones being cut off and the debt collectors contacting us even though CISAS (not sure if that's the right initials) found in our favour. Thankfully it appears to be sorted now but it's been a complete nightmare and has caused my husband no end of stress in dealing with them. I would look for another provider.

:b How did you guess! But I don't want anyone else going through what we have for the last 11 months. Though I don't think any of them have got a completely untarnished record. I've also heard bad things of Sky from a friend and yet I'm sure there are plenty of people who are perfectly happy with them!

I'm with Tiscali but I had a lot of teething problems when I first set up broadband. Firstly they didn't send me the modem when they were supposed to, then when they did send it I just couldn't install broadband at all :( Now I'm not the smartest when it comes to computers but I was following all the instructions to the letter with no luck.

The young lad down the road who is a real computer buff couldn't manage either. Everytime it got to the bit where I had to enter my username & password it kept saying it was incorrect.

I was tearing my hair out & a lot as I knew it was correct.

Anyway, after much swearing & many phonecalls to India & being called "Madam" a lot  it turned out that they had neglected to send me a welcome pack which would have informed me that my user name had changed, so no wonder I couldn't install the damn thing. Grrrrr!!!!!

Eventually I got it working but in all it cost me £40 to get someone to come & sort it out properly.

Then I found out that due to an error on their part I'd been overcharged by £90.

It did all get sorted in the end but it was very annoying at the time.

The only other problem I find is that the connection will just go all of a sudden. Then I have to go & switch the wireless modem off for a minute(upstairs) & switch it back on again. Annoying when I'm in the middle of something.

But as I'm too bone idle to bother changing providers I'm still with Tiscali.

I know people who have had similar problems with BT & Carphone Warehouse so It's probably just pot luck really.

:luck: :luck:

I've never had any trouble with Tiscali and I've been with them 7-8 years. BUT - I have heard of people who have! I also did have a bit of trouble when I tried to change from them to Sky. Either Tiscali wouldn't let me or Sky were doing it wrong. However Sky were so rude we decided to stay with Tiscali and even cancelled the TV with Sky.

Talk Talk - I don't know anything about the service but when my grandma died they wouldn't let my dad cancel the contract because they had to speak to the account holder in person. Tricky one that seeing as she was dead  I have never heard such foul language come out of my dads mouth but I totally understand why he did it. Apparently they were having none of it, the only way he could stop the money going out of her account was to close the account. Now I think thats pretty disgusting service so I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!

NO WAY - do not sign up with Tiscali!!  They have more complaints than any other ISP.

Good Luck :)

That was a realy interesting site - glad to see it's not just us that have had problems with them. We would completely agree with one of the writers saying that Tiscali never accept that anything's their fault. I think that's one of the things that my husband got really cross about. And having to go over the same thing again and again!
