there is a new strain of pavo going around the north east, Janet Lowery's vets had 9 dogs last week.....

for what its worth you should have the boosters , i did & everyone i know has had them , better safe than sorry

Me too, but then I've also heard lots of cases of dogs having boosters every year and being fine :unsure:ritchie said:

We saw a programe on sky, just a pet one and the vet was asked if boosters are rearly necesary and she said no not rearly but if a new strain off parvo does get worse then they will have to be vacinated for that aswell .

i never bother 17 years and no probs so far though a new strain of parvo would be concerning exept for the fact it could just be scaremongering be vets to boost thier back poctets ?

We don't have booster inoculations for our dogs mainly for the reasons outlined by BeeJays post.
Vaccinations are generaly effective for more than 12mths. Those that aren't are of limited use anyway - whats the point of a vaccination that only lasts a few months anyway.
The intial vaccination will give "life long" immunity although the degree of immunity decreases with time from innoculation. My view is that after the intial inoculation the dog will have sufficient immunity to make experience of the pathogen a non fatal one. ( which is not the case for unimmunised animals). Also throughout its life the dog is likely to come into contact with the viral agents its immunised against but because of the intial vaccination the illness produced is mild or sub-clinical. The effect of such contact is the same as booster vaccinations in any case.
Most vets coincide the boosters with an anual check over which is not a bad thing if your knowledge of dogs is limited but the argument for yearly boosters is a bit thin.
