Now that I have a car harness sorted out, I am looking at getting a dog cage for benching. I don't need to worry about cage fittng my hatchback now BUT wondered if there was alot of variation in benching dimensions. What are the sizes that can fit a"standard" bench but gives a male whippet the comfort he expects? similarly, what cage dimensions wouldallow 2 whippets comfort on the bench?

As I said in my previous post, the Croft 21" x 31" (door opening on the end) generally fit on a bench.

As does the Argos one !

Ive bought one of those new sort , very light weight , so much easier for carrying when you have a dickie neck.

I dont bother with the metal ones now . leave that put up at home :D

the KC state that the benches SHOULD be 21 ins wide for Whippets a but those of us who went to H A of S will testify they were not that wide

I saw a Whippet just claw a line through one of those soft ones at Whippet Club of Wales, I was just about to buy one, is yours quite tought Jax.

I saw a man carrying one in front of him, 'Why are you carring your cage like that,' I said. 'I have a neckie d**k' he replied.

H.A.S benching was crap, I took a partition out and put a double cage in for my two. A good tip for any show goers is dont ever imagine the weather is going to be like last year, I took a doble cage so the boys wouldnt get too hot like last year :b

I had to take out a partion just to get a single cage in !

Ive not had any trouble with my new cage, All the dogs ( even Mikkee ) just lay down no probs . :p

In fact the first time I put Mikkee in it was SYWC and becasue Mayzee and Fleur were in later classes when i came to dismantle it i couldnt understand why it was so heavy !!

Id forgotten Mikkee was inside she was so good !! ( thats how I breed them you see  )

I had a necky D.. K but had a sex change ( thought you knew about that !!) ;)

Thanks all, I appreciate the feedback  )

Dessie, I'd read your previous mail and was intending to get that size when I was informed by a friend that "show benches are as consistent as quotes from different builders" (she was at the hound show, so perhaps that influenced her, or her marraige to a builder?)

I had seen those sorft ones, looked good but wondered if chewy?????

 According to the people who put the benches up at HA of S, they were told to make them 19" wide by the committee. As Jax said there were a number of us who took out the partitions between benches. 19" or even 21" in my view is not sufficient for a Whippet to lie comfortably. I had quite a strop (quite unusual for me!) with the guy from the benching company and told him in no uncertain terms that if he thought I was going to leave my Whippets in benches that size he could think again. For years I have refused to leave the Whippets on an open bench, especially now that there are so many dognappers about.
