Hello, been a while I know, sorry!

Must get some pics up of Poppy as she is nearly a grown up and more beautiful than ever!

She has recently though seemed to get a couple of bald patches, two under her 'arms' but think this is cos of harness rubbing, doesnt seem to bother her so not too worried bout that but a few days ago we noticed a little bald patch on her chest right down the middle of her ribs, its only small and the skin is fine.

Does anyone know what this is? Could it be change of hormones? She is nearly 10months old so may be due for a season soon.

Its not bothering her but would like to put my mind at rest.

Thanks

Carla

not sure about the bald patch on the chest, but Eskil has very thin hair on his armpits and tummy (well, actually the very centre of his tummy is bald), seems to be the case with short haired dogs.

Grace developed some bald patches on the outside of her thighs, and when I asked about it on here the general consensus seemed to be that it wasn't anything to worry about, just something that whippets and greyhounds are prone to. I've added some wheatgerm oil to her diet which someone kindly advised and am hoping the hair will grow back in the spring. Will let you know if it works!

They have such fine coats that it can end up 'rubbing off' at friction points. I'd only be concerned if she started losing a lot of hair in other places or shows signs of scratching etc.

Neela (who is 6 months old) has the same little bald strip on her chest. It's right underneath, not visible from the front. Like an extremely thin pink line... looks almost like a parting! I don't think it's anything to worry about though. Maybe it'll fill out with hair once she's stopped growing!

Django sometimes ends up with little pink elbows with no hair on them, bless him. Probably rubs off the hair from where he lays on the carpet chewing rawhides and pigs ears.

Nothing to worrie about,,,quite normal for whippets. My Robbie is bald there, but Gizmo is not.

I find if you leave the big whippet collars on 24/7,,they go bald under the neck. I now have fine house collars on my boys and the hair has grown back. I like a collar on the boys,,just incase, so got Katie to make the boys a nice house collar for them. They have them on 24/7,,even on walks :D

I agree with Susan , my boy use to be bald under the neck until i bought him one of k4tie-d house collars which he ( and the rest of the furkids ) wear 24/7  I only use whippet collars when walking him now

same here they are fine coated especially the peddies an old remedy is to rub coconut oil onto the area it protects the hair shaft and helps regrowth

Thanks ever so much for putting my mind at rest, also for the advice

re the whippet collars. could anyone tell me why whippets need one. i have always wanted to know. thanks
