hello clair, iv not been into showing long so if i get it wrong im shure somone else will correct me ,in my opinion italians will be fine with chihuahuas,as for a bitch being spade and shown i believe you need to ask kc for permision then you can show her i think most bitches you cant even tell they have been spade one the scar heals ,an italian needs to be kc registered in order to be shown, sorry cant help with a breeder down your way have look on the kennel club they have a list of breeders on there, good luck with your search :thumbsup:Hi my name is Claire and I am totally new to this forum and forums in general so I apologise if this post is in the wrong area but i am not sure how this works and where I should post this, so again apologies if this offends anyone. I have years of personal experience with dogs and currently own 2 chihuahuas and also work with dogs, I have been fascinated by the Italian greyhound breed for some time.
I recently went to crufts for the first time and it was a dream come true, I work as a trainee dog groomer and my future ambition is to specialise and become a dog behaviourist so I am gaining experience and working my way up.
I had never been interested in dog showing until my recent visit to crufts sparked my interest, purely because of how proud the dogs look and the people that I spoke to at crufts genuinely loved and cared for there dogs and got huge pleasure from showing.
I came to the decision that I would like to have a go at showing in the future and I would like the Italian greyhound to be my breed of choice, one because I already have a huge affection from the breed and 2 because they look so beautiful in the ring.
Non of my chihuahuas have pedigrees or are kc registered so I have no experience in how it works with the kc although I have owned pedigree golden retrievers in the past so I understand the pedigree.
I have done hours of research into the Italian greyhound as a breed and have been researching into showing and how it works and i have been advised to join a IG forum for more information on the breed and showing the breed.
I would like to stress that although I am interested in showing, ALL dogs I own are first and foremost my beloved pets and will be treated as such, the health and welfare is my top priority and that comes before showing so I would never discard a dog if it ended up not suitable for showing.
I am interested in showing purely from a love of dogs pint of view and I would get huge pleasure form showing just because I love dogs.
That said I have a few questions so if anyone could give me any answers, help or advice I would be extremely grateful.....
1) Would an Italian greyhound fit with 2 chihuahuas on a living basis, baring in mind I am aware of the exercise needs of an Italian greyhound and my chihuahuas would get the same even though they are small my chihuahuas are capable and love to go for long walks.
2) Do Italian Greyhound have to have there dew claws intact in order to be suitable for showing as I have seen ads with dew claws removed?
3) I know males have to have there testicles in tact is this the same for bitches in regards to being spayed? I.e if spayed are they unsuitable for show?
4) How does the kc work for example do they have to have 3 generation kc/pedigree in order to show or do they just have to be pedigree and kc registered?
And finally does anybody know any reputable breeders in the west Yorkshire or Manchester area? as I am based in Huddersfield but can travel a bit if needed.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and any replies would be appreciated.
