This landed on my windscreen while we were walking the dogs and I have no idea what it is. Any ideas?

Havnt a clue what that is....been scanning the insect pages on the net...nothing even remotely like it??? :unsure:

I think its a pupae of something...

Brilliant identification Elizabeth. How on earth did you find that? I'll tell my old entomology tutor and see if he's interested.

Seems there are more and more strange things to identify every year. My parents' evergreens are being ravaged by viburnum beetle.

Coincidentally I find the Multi-coloured ladybird is an efficient predator of viburnum beetle larvae, though it sounds like that may be

it's only advantage:

They also have a large nest (like a paper football) of Median Wasps living in remains of the viburnum hedge,

impressive but I'm not quite sure what to do about them; they haven't been aggressive

so far, even when I was trimming it.

I was just going to say the same thing - that it looks like a lady bird larva - they are real lttle carnivores and will eat any other living insects - including themselves!
