Allergy Advice Please - For Me Not The Dog!!

had a brilliant day today with our homebred jessie which resulted in a win in her class then best puppy in breed at the boston and dist show, but sadly halfway through the day even after taking my regular allergy spray and tabs , i was hit by the worst headache and nasal pain ive had in a very long time, the pain made me physically sick has anyone got any advice on any other allergy treatments? im allergic to dogs cats and horses and yep what have i got all 3! (w00t) but i have really suffered today and im at another show tomorrow :wacko: so any advice im grateful for :thumbsup:

Taking 2x500mg capsules of Flax seed oil per day continuesly reduced occurance of my allergies significantly. Also keeping away from anything too hairy, and if I start getting bit of itchy nose and runny eyes I take over the counter medication called Claratyne (Loratadine 10mg), and when i cannot breath I use nasal spray called Spray-Tish (tramazoline hydrochloride).

as for your allegies i really dont know. A girl i know is allergic to animals and gets problems when there is too much dust about she has these things you plug in to the wall at night they are suposed to help you breath,

hope ypour sorted soon you have the same allergies as me I had to give up horses years ago and then cats but lucky the dogs one is ok with sighthounds for some reson

have you tryed any of the alternatve medisens like acupunture or chines medicens they might help. i know every i know with hayfever is realy bad at the moment

home from another show and pounding head again! im currently on a nasal spray, flixinase, i also take over the counter allergy rememdies but will try the chinese thingys as im suffering badly, i know you build up a type of resissance to your own but i was near huskys and malamutes yesterday! in an indoor horse arena!!! (w00t) and i wonder why? :- "

I thought I had pet allergies too, as I've had odd, periodic flareups of allergy-type symptoms which come and go without explanation.

It was really bad last year; sinus, eyes, skin, oesophagus so, after going back and fore to the GP with no success, I went to see a private allergy doctor. He did a range of skin tests and said I was only very slightly allergic, not enough to explain the degree of irritation I was suffering (I had ulcers all over the inside of my eyes and the skin around was so swolen my glasses were cutting in painfully).

I told him it was worst when the weather was sunny; he immediately asked if I wore a high-factor sun screen as the substances in these are very bad for inducing extreme sensitivity. I did use it, and so I stopped immediately and the skin irriation went away in days. The sinus problems went when the weather got cooler and fresher.

Further to this, I've found I'm just extremely chemically sensitive. The trouble is that aerial pollution tends to be high at the same time as pollen (in hot, sunny weather) so it's easy to assume irritation is just down to the usual allergens. One GP did say that it's very common in Oxford due to the fact we are in a sort of basin so that aerial pollution can't escape, and there are times when lots of people come in with skin/eye/nose irritation and asthma-like symptoms when conditions are bad.

The allergy doctorr also suggested that my chemical sensitivity also extends to prescription medicines which means it's almost impossible for me to find a stable dose of thyroid replacement; but finally knowing this has really helped a lot as none of the other specialists could fathom what the problem was.

The only thing I found effective was high doses of pirition; if I know it's going to be hot, still weather I take them preventatively (don't drive of course as they make you very, very drowsy).

I do too, but normal medication works fine for me :b

my sister is extremely allergic to animal/pollen/dust the whole kaboodle :wacko: so had some sort of anti histamine injection last summer, first thing that has ever really worked for her :thumbsup:
