AGE REGULATIONS

CAN ANYBODY ENLIGHTEN ME? SOMEBODY ASKED ME IF THERE IS ANY AGE RESTRICTION ON NFC DOGS. AFTER SEARCHING THE RULES ON THE SCHEDULES I MUST ADMIT THAT I COULD NOT FIND ANY MENTION OF AGE IN THE NOT FOR COMPETITION REGS. SO CAN WE TAKE PUPPIES UNDER SIX MONTHS?

All the Rules & Show Regulations, as laid down by the Kennel Club, say is:

"Puppies under six caldendar months of age on the day of the show are not elibible for exhibition."

Therefore you should legally be able to enter your puppy NFC and take it into the show. However, depending on how old the puppy is, and knowing what some people are like, you might find yourself approached by members of the committee because someone has complained!

If your puppy is 5 (ish) months old you might be OK and it will be a good experience (hopefully) but a show might be a bit of a daunting placed for a very young puppy. Hard to say other than that without knowing your puppy!

Want to talk about petty!! I was at a whippet show a few months back. It was really too hot to leave dogs in the car, so a couple brought in their two pups who were 1 DAY SHORT of 6 months! And someone complained to the committee about it! I couldn't believe it. They were causing no harm, and they were a heck of a lot safer inside than out.

I don't think it was taken any further though - very few people are willing to put their money down with their complaint - esp when it's just petty.

As I said, people are very petty, but the committee is fully entitled to ask for the puppies (or any dog for that matter) to be removed from the show if they are not entered as it is contravening KC Rules & Regs, the complainant would not need to put down their £35.00 in a case like that. If, however, the puppy had been entered NFC it would have been entitled to stay at the show.

OH I agree! If a complaint is made and the committee is made aware they are under obligation to act on it. My view is there are so many more things in life to worry about that I wouldn't make the complaint.

Now sticking whippets outside on a windy cold October day (as we did yesterday)! That I would complain about (not that it made any difference LOL). We had a ring full of shivering whippets who didn't want to stand still. (Mine worst of all - silly dog!)

I don't think your Whippet is silly at all Wendy ................. I would probably have been shivering as well and I would have been allowed to wear my coat! in the ring!!

The last time that Woody and I competed (I use that word rather loosely :) ) in an obedience comp was at an exemption show. We'd been stood there watching and got talked into having a go. We hadn't done any obedience training for months and it had been raining hard. But what the hell.

I said I'd only do it if it was okay for me to put my waterproof coat on the ground as I wasn't going to ask my dog to do the stay's on wet grass. The judge was fine about it but the steward made the comment when I took off my coat and put it on the ground that she'd never seen anything so ridiculous. I replied that I wasn't going to ask my dog to do something that would make his miserable and asking him to lie down on soaking wet cold grass for a min would be horrible for him (I don't think that he'd have been at all chuffed at being asked to sit on it either). :)

We got 5th out of over 20 dogs. I'm afraid his useless owner had forgotten how to do heel work. But he never faltered whilst doing his stays :D

Good for you Beejay!! It annoys me when people either laugh or comment about the Whips wearing their coats, especially Coco because with her rotten lungs she really feels the cold. My retort to anyone who comments "Well, you're wearing your coat aren't you, why shouldn't they!"

Thanks Dessie - out of deference to her I didn't wear my coat either LOL. I figured it was only fair.
