Hi,

My friend has currently got a health problem with her six year old whippet. On Sunday evening he was rushed to the vet as he woke up suddenly and couldn't breathe properly, he then began to make an awful noise and really shook for around 45 minutes. The vet couldn't make a diagnosis but gave him a couple of jabs to calm him down and sent him home with advice to bring him back in if things didn't improve in the week. He has been sick this week, breathing erratically (almost snorting) and keeps bobbing his head up and down, my friend is at a loss as to what could be wrong with him and would welcome any advice from other whippet owners. He did have a nasty racing accident when he was three years old which involved a head and neck injury, but this is the only episode of sickness he has had since then so I'm not thinking it's linked?

I would try another vet for a second opinion, it's obvious there's something not right.

I wonder whether he was/is having fits of some kind? Your description of his breathing/shaking problems rings bells with me as I have a friend whose whippet developed a form of epilepsy after a head injury. Poor lad - I hope they get to the bottom of it quickly as it must be frightening for him and his owner.
