Advice Please

Hi,

Floyd went out this morning and it seems he has diarrhoea

He has been off his food a bit (2-3 days) and just been picking, I thought it was because he is teething (a big one at the front) and I have to admit that when he hasn't eaten he has had chews, a couple of bits of dried liver and goats milk. Has any of this contributed?

He seems very lively and happy in himself?

I noticed all this this morning - at what point should I go the the vet?

Any advice please as I am worried about him.

Oscar went through a bad stage of this too. I just kept him on light food for a couple of days - chicken rice pasta, not too many biscuits or treats, I would probably cut out the milk altogether for a while. If he is at all unwell in himself - then I would take him to the vets. Oscar picked up again in a couple of days - plenty of water too so he dosnt get dehydrated. I used to give Oscar ice cubes to play with.

Hope this has been some help, but if you are at all worried about him then a trip to the vets wouldnt harm. :thumbsup: You said he seemed lively and happy so I dont think there is too much to worry about here. Keep an eye on him :luck:

Good advice from Jan ... if he's vomiting, depressed, off colour etc then get him checked out. As long as the diarrhoea clears with a light diet he should be fine :luck:

I agree with Jan :thumbsup:

One of ours had bad runs a while back, we starved him for 24hrs then started giving him boiled rice and scrambled eggs, or chicken, gradually over a period of 4 days or so started reintroducing his normal food.....i.e a quarter complete food to 3/4 rice, then half and half and so on :thumbsup:

If if doesnt clear up, the vets, ours do anyway, give you these large tablets which are palatable and i think you give 2 four times a day which act as 'immoduim' i suppose! I cant remember what they are called....think it begins with a C ! :blink:

They are only about five pounds and usaully given before vets investitage further :thumbsup:

If if doesnt clear up, the vets, ours do anyway, give you these large tablets which are palatable and i think you give 2 four times a day which act as 'immoduim' i suppose!  I cant remember what they are called....think it begins with a C ! :blink:

NO DAIRY PRODUCTS AND LIGHT FISH AND RICE MEALS SMALL AND OFTEN, MAKE SURE HE IS DRINK PLENTY WATER

YOU CAN ALSO ADD NATURAL YOGURT AS IT ACTS AS A PROBIOTIC

Hi Whippet-teers,

I took him to the vet just in case, as he is only a baby.

His temp is normal, and the vet reckons he has had too much of a good thing (treats, goats milk) it's my fault, but he is sometimes picky and doesn't eat his meals of tripe & royal canin, so I end up giving him a treat (about and hour after a missed meal) in case he is hungry.

The vet said I need to be stricter and stick to his meals, I know this but its soooooo hard when he starts looking at me with sorrowful eyes!!

Vet said some chicken and rice with canikur for a couple of days, then trying to stick to a regular diet.

Thank you all for your advice.

The poor boy didn't really like the thermometer being stuck in him, and he was a bit subdued, but is now learping around the garden.

I will give him a whippet forum cuddle.

He really enjoyed his steamed chicken and canikur!! and is looking well, just a little stunned, when I went to clean his dirty bottom ( a result of his runs) which is normally very very clean, he squealed, so I had to tickle his tum and clean him that way. poor boy, he was okay with me lifting his tail before the thermometer incident, I hope he can forget it.

He is currently sunning himself in the garden.

Sorry, missed the bit about him being a pup No, dont starve him!

Our dog was almost two years old when he had the bout id just mentioned

:huggles: :huggles: aahh, hope poor Floyd gets better soon (you have my sympathy, Ella had 5 days of bad d====ea just after her 2nd needle, don't know if it was that or like you - too many nice treats) good that he's ok in himself.

Our vet gave 3 tins of I.D. food for 3 days
