My whippet Jack growls and nips the other dog when he is playing. Usually the other dog is quite tolerant of this. Some even join in and growl as well, but recently I have been out walking over the fields with Jack off the lead and . He has run twice to another strange dog to play, and the other dog has not understood and has become angry with Jack. I have seen other whippets and hounds nipping when they play, but is this normal behaviour??? He is so fast, there is no way I could stop him nipping when he is playing off the lead. The only thing I can do is catch him and put him on the lead again, but I should like to know if whippets do nip when playing together. I have read that some play so roughly, it sounds as if they are fighting, but of course they are only playing. I should like advice on this. :(

100% normal

My boy does this as well but usually only when another dog is quicker than him and I think he gets quite narked about it  It worried me too at first as I thought other dogs would think he was attacking but there had never been any fights or bother, they seem to know it's OK for some reason.
