I spent last weekend in the Lake District celebrating my birthday. We didn't take the boys but we had a lovely break all the same.

It has taken me ages sorting through my photos, but here are one or two worth sharing..

I loved this weather vane in the village where we stayed :)

Sunset from the Duddon estuary close by. I was tring to get a sunset, but there wasn't much of one so i amused myself trying to take photos of gulls instead :- "

A stone on the estuary beach. I loved the colour of it...

A final shot of the day, from the Duddon estuary again...

We walked up the Old Man of Coniston on the Saturday..some views:

Can you see the climbers and the blue rescue box?

Following the path up to Goat's Hause, before the final ascent:

We made it... (it was -10 C at the top with the wind chill)... :teehee:

The next day the weather was poor, so we gave up walking and drove over the hills and stopped at this little lake on the way, with its stone boathouse...

A monochrome...

We took in these views on the way:

..and finally back to the coast for lunch. Gillian has got me hooked on monochrome photos with colour added back in...

This could get addictive... :p

Lovely photos, Nicola, as always.  What a beautiful rock - such an amazing colour. :)

We were in the Lake District a couple of weeks ago on a site overlooking Coniston and with The Old Man in view. It's a place we really love. Unfortunately the weather was really bad, so we didn't do very much walking. :( We did walk up The Old Man last year. Hard work but really well worth it.

Ooops - sorry, you were still posting. Those last pics are stunning, especially the mononchrome with colour. Very effective.

Were you in your caravan? It must have been cold! We stayed in a pub in a small village at the end of the Duddon valley, on the south side of the Lakes. We'd never stayed there before. It was small, but unspoiled with no tacky tourist shops or fish& chip shops. :sweating:

Funnily enough we found walking up The Old Man less arduous this time :b (I don't remember it being like that the last time we went up there), but after having walked up some Scottish mountains in September, which started at sea level, we remembered why it didn't feel as challenging. Plus the fact we drove up from the village to the car park at the foot of the hill, so that immediately eliminated several hundred feet of uphill :sweating:

I was in Kirkby Lonsdale...staying in the Rectory which has the most amazing views...called Ruskins View...gorgeous...I'll post a picture later  ...not a good one like yours though :b

We were in our caravan, Nicola, but it warms up pretty well with the gas heater on. We stayed on a farm site just near Torver (been there 3 times I think), not far from Coniston. Has lovely views of the lake and we walk into Coniston along the lake side. :) The Border Collie in the photo is the farm dog, who was very interested in where Remmy had been as she was still in season (although she has been spayed and unfortunately will need another op. :( )

Dolly and Remmy last year at the top of The Old Man. I found it hard walking with the Whippets on the lead as they don't always take the same route as I plan. :- "

Ah yes...I know it well. I've stayed there many a time (about 12 years ago now since I last visited, but often stayed in a cottage on the high street). Ruskin's view has some very happy memories for me, and is one of those views that still makes an impact (I drove by just to glimpse it a few years ago on my way back from the Lakes). Can't wait to see your photos. :)

I remember that lovely photo of your two whippets near the trigg point.

That looks a lovely campsite, and we passed through Torver to get to Coniston. It looked idyllic. The OH only has bad memories of Torver because he bought a Landrover there many years ago, and it cost him a fortune getting it serviced and repaired there. He used to dread his visits to Torver as a result :p

The climbers are very hard to see aren't they? The one in red is just about visible. The blue stretcher box is a bit easier to see. :p

Lovely photos once again Nicola. I really like those black and white estuary ones with the bit of colour, especially the anchor. :) That weather vane would look much nicer with a blue sky - why do we hardly ever seem to get that these days!! :(

And I like the views and the sunsets - actually, I think I like them all! :- "

Thanks Gillian. It didn't occur to me to think about the colour of the sky behind the weather vane. It was more of a record shot really, but I'll go back and see what I can do to enhance it. My homework for tonight :p
