i know you lot are sick of spiders but as there seems to be quiet a good split of people likeing them and not likeing them i thought you guys would be the best to ask.

i am petrifided of spiders! dont know why, have been scared of them since birth my mum would say lol,

they dont bother my mum, dad or sister so why am i scared???

i ralise some people say how can you be scared of spiders, but really with it being one of the most common fears there has to be a good reason for it some where,

like maybe in a past life i was bitten by one and thats why im so scared now? :- "

now OH is not scared of spiders (thank god) but zoe and kyle are developing a fear, when i say developing i mean they started saying look at the spider now zoe squeals,

Am i passing on my fear to them? :(

or is it in the geans and skipped mum and dad but hit me and my kids instead?

now i have a plan so i want to know if you think it will work, i dont want them to be scared of them, so if i am passing on my fear there may be a way to stop it,

there is a butterfly farm and insect world close by, and at lunch time they bring out lots of different things for kids and adults to hold, snakes, millopeads and ofcourse Tratuals (sp)

now there is no way in hell i could ever touch one of these so i can expect the kids to if i dont but OH could

do you think if they saw OH holding one they might have a go? (as long as i didnt freek out)

are they still young enough (4 + 2) to loose the fear and be ok?

what do you guys think on the matter?

I don't know why I don't like spiders, they don't bother me so much if they are out of doors, it's the ones in the house I can't stand! Where we used to live there were loads of them, one night when I was reading in bed I actually heard on going up the wall, so did my OH, even he was a bit bothered by that one, it was big!!!!!!!!!!! Some the dogs will just not tackle, others they will chase and eat, ugh.

There must be some primeval thing in us that give us this unrational fear, snakes, frogs, toads and thing like that I can handle, not too keen on rats, mice, no problem.

I know there are de-sensitising programs you can do, can't be bothered, i didn't transfer my fear to my daughter, but my grand daughter is scared of them. So it just happens I think.

Katie, my daughter runs a mile when she sees a house spider.... (w00t)

but managed to face her fears on her sixth form trip to Canada...they were in a Bugworld and she managed to hold the Tarantula

she amazed herself really. :- " she said it felt like silk and moved slowly which helped...

Ive never been scared of them, my mam isnt but my sister is...

but Ive never held a tarantula either...

my fear is maggots...ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh I just hate them (w00t)

so do you think if WE took them to the insect worl they might have a chance of getting over the fear?

As a single parent, I over came myfear of Spiders when I realised it was going to transfer to my Son, I can now pick them up in my hands and carry them out of school in front of the children, so they don't get in the habit of killing them with mindless violence...like some people!

But it took a lot of will power!!

And I still don't really love spiders as much as I made out on Ann's thread...sorry Ann :b
