Hi, just seen your post, and all I can say is let them find their own level!

I have two cats of 4 and 18months, and got my puppy 4 weeks ago, and I'm surprised how they have dealt with it all!

My pup is now slightly larger than my big adult male, but he soon knows when enough is enough and to leave him alone!

Just watch and don't interfere unless it's getting out of control.

Good Luck

:- )

i dont have cats so i cannot help, though the book i bought 'the perfect puppy' has tips in there about introducing your puppy to new animals etc, so it might lend you a helping hand

good luck :) x

I have recently brought two lurcher pups into our home and there have been no problems at all with our persian cat. She made it clear that they were welcome, but she was the boss. The pups treat her with respect and she plays with them ........... but on her terms. She has lived for a lot of her life with a GSD and is not even slightly nervous around dogs. She would never think of running away from them.

I have found that problems are more likely to occur if the cats run. It is a pup's instinct to chase things which move (run) I would take it cautiously to start with, but I am sure you won't have a problem.

I have had cats and dogs living happily together in my home all my life, and have never had one harm another.

p.s. Just seen your pic. He is lovely.

OWhen we put food down for the pups, Amelia, our persian cat, goes and inspects the dishes, She never eats any of it. Just sniffs. While she is doing so the pups stand back. Having finished her inspection she leaves the pups to their meal and they both dive in.

It looks so funny. I assume this is Amelia's way of asserting herself, but maybe she just wants to check that they aren't getting anything better than her.
