Whats best for showing flat or rolled leather, what's kinder if you have

one who bob's her head about and sometimes try to charge off when

your having a few minutes training.

Is there any benefits to having a all in one rather than separate collar

and lead. Some offer a different length lead again is there any benefits

with this.

Do any of you use the ones with the wider throat part, does this look

ok when you are showing.

Or is it all just down to personal preference ?

I have one that likes to bob his head down, so I brought one of the all in one padded slide leads from Hide and Collars (gorgeous lead but rather expensive). This was after trying an all in one rolled leather half check collar, but he used to pull down on his and end up having a coughing fit! The Hide and Collars lead is great but gives a bit as its a very soft leather, so until he is trained a bit better I am using a rolled choke chain which doesn't nip at the skin but a slight tug gets him back in line with his head off of the floor. Also don't get a lead that is too long, as I made this mistake and it got in the way when changing the lead to a different hand.

I prefer all in one half checks. No real preference to flat nylon or rolled leather. I did prefer the JR Whippet Rescue type leather show leads, but I also have some 'blinged' nylon ones as well...

For Drama I had to take a completely different route and use a rounded check. She liked to twist and turn her head when standing so I tried it one day and gave that bit more control. She would move fine on any style, but standing she needed the additional control of the check.

I know it's not very helpful - I've learned that one doesn't necessarily fit all dogs so you have to kind of find what works for you.

Mine all have different types of lead. Freyja prefers a flat nylon slip lead. Owen has a flat leather slip lead, Simba has a brass half check collar and naughty Amber is better behaved since I changed her to a fine choke chain. With the big dogs Button has a rope slip lead as does Zoe and William has a thin flat leather slip lead.

I usualy take a case full of different leads to shows so if one of them needs to use a different lead then I usually have something with me to use.

I have 4 but my favourite is a round leather all in one half check from hide and collar. with naughty dogs I feel it has more control. to avoid choking I let it fall to the base of the neck, if you give a light tug it doesn't seem to choke/hurt them.
