So bax has been to every dog class under the sun at this trainer but we haven't been in two years. I decided as something "fun" id pick up a basic manners course.
the day after the class he started pooping blood and one very expensive vet visit later i get the diagnosis. colitis. AGAIN. the...
So some of you may have seen Bax's story the other day about being sick after his dog class. I took him to the vet and the vet took one look at the pile of poop Bax generously left him on the floor and said "Oh, Colitis again Eh?"
Bax has had Colitis probably 5 or 6 times in his life. i talked...
So I don't really take Bax around dogs much (he's not really a "dog" kind of dog.) But with winter cutting our walks short I decided to take him back to basic training at his old stomping grounds. He's taken almost every course they offer here multiple times, knows and loves the trainer, and got...
on the plus side he doesnt mind getting his teeth brushed. buying Logic was a huge win, (although its like 30$ a tube in the states) and hes been crunching on freeze dried chicken feet every week so i think once this tarter is gone ill have a pretty solid handle on keeping the plaque off
The way I've been handling this is I'm slowly weaning him off his OLD food (the veggie stuff) onto his new food (the really good fish stuff) and I'm considering the "vet recommended food" as just treats. so he gets his breakfast and a handful of crunchy "treats". Probably not what my vet wants...
This is the food my vet put Bax on to stave off the inevitable tooth cleaning: Hill's Prescription Diet t/d Dental Care Chicken Flavor Small Bites Dry Dog Food, 5-lb bag - Chewy.com
Sweet jesus alive look at that ingredient list O.o
I can get fish4food in the states! but its a bit pricey. 45$ for a 13lb yikes. I'll poke around. i do like they're sustainably fished though!!!!!!! might be worth splurging
So I went vegan and I put Bax on vegetarian kibble. He's doing great on it but I recently went pescitarian for health reasons and figured if I was broadening my diet why shouldn't bax?
His teeth have also gotten so bad on the vegetarian stuff I'm taking him in to get anesthetized and get them...
EWWWW.... JASPER! Yeah Bax's most recent vomit adventure has been eating popcorn (which i was TOLD is a dog friendly snack) throwing it up all over, picaing up all the hair and grass in the house and vomiting THAT up.... it was a mess... no more popcorn for bax.
What is the worst thing your dog has ever eaten/attempted to eat?
Asking because I just pulled a used condom from out of my dogs mouth with my bare hands and I don't think I'll ever be clean again.
why wouldnt you mix it? i mean food is food right? i know doing a hard and fast switcheroo can cause soem stomach upsrt if you dont wean but just adding some extra raw shouldnt matter to much right? O.o
i made a commitment to bax so im not above adding raw back into his diet for his health, i do want to try other options first before i throw in the kibble towel
So bax used to be raw fed and he had the most gorgeous pearly whites. Ever since i switched him to kibble they've gotten worse and worse and now they are downright gross.
I've tried chews with him but he's not really a chewing kind of dog and has stopped accepting any of the brands ive tried...
Yeah he chased anything. Squirrels rabbits birds the works. And again I’m not super concerned about him coming back when called. I want him to come back period. I’m worrying about him running away and getting lost or just choosing to not come back
6 year old rat terrier. Worked extensively on off leash walking and recall about 3-4 years ago. He was pretty good till he lapped the barn three times chasing a chicken. Ignored all attempts at recall. He had fun. I did not. He hasn’t been off lead since. What are my odds on getting him off lead...
i work in the walmart of nursing homes. its a 300+ bed facility. i cant ask the nursing staff =( i think i might do some more digging on nappies though. post on other forums for ideas.....
not sure. its worth a thought. i mean, he LOVES the nursing home but he's definitely amped up to 11. i think the one time at the nursing home was because i didn't give him a LONG walk to empty his bowels and he just really had to go and had no reason not to. that maybe COMBINED with stress and...
