People clapping or cheering on the TV. He goes nuts, spinning and barking. You would be amazed how many times this happens on the TV in an evening. And it only has to be for a few seconds.
If the dog can go and Poop as many times as they like without having to wait or "hold it in" then maybe this is more likely the problem. A house trained dog that is left alone long periods learns to do this, whreas one that can get outside anytime may not.
I think you have said, there are other dogs there that M knows and are happy to come up to you so how about just being there and not directly interacting with her but with other dogs that are more confident. M will then see, and learn that the other dogs see you both as safe and also how to act...
