We've had one male and two females and have no real preference. One was a rescue but the other two were bought as puppies and we chose the puppy rather than the gender. They say that females wreck the lawn with their pee which is quite true but our male Sheltie never learnt to cock his leg and...
Wow, he's a great age. Must have been quite a shock for him but he seems to have found a peaceful spot. Cats generally are pretty good at sorting themselves out. Not nearly as needy as dogs in my experience.
Yes Evie lives with our cat. Our cat Izzy is 5 and lived a peaceful life with us before Evie arrived to wreck her peace 18 months ago. They actually get on OK - wouldnt go so far as to say they are friends but Izzy is very tolerant and Evie is not allowed to terrorise her. Izzy has her struck...
Asking for advice on behalf of friends. They have a well behaved and generally calm 3 year old Doberman, Gracie. However when adults talk to each other or speak on the telephone the dog becomes very whiny and pestering for attention. Not so bad when in the house with just one adult, it seems...
Evie usually gets one walk a day about an hour. Sometimes longer. No street lights here or pavements so can't go out with her when it's dark. When it's lighter she may get another walk early evening. We're lucky to be retired so can pick and choose when and if we go out, so Evie has no walk...
Either in her own bed on the landing or on our bedroom floor. She's never tried to get on our bed so we haven't had to tell her she's not allowed. Would prefer it if she slept downstairs but we have a cat who frequently brings in mice, dead or alive through the cat flap, so the cat is kept...
Id just like to add that I have recently bought an Equafleece the same as Timbers. We bought it really to try and keep Evie's undercarriage a bit cleaner - she is constantly filthy!! I am very pleased with it. Very easy to put on, light, comfortable and quick to dry. Mind you, Evie is now just...
Ive never given them as I didn't know whether they were healthy or not. I give Evie a couple of raw bones (chicken and duck wings) each week to aid with teeth cleaning - not sure where I got that advice from. Perhaps Excuseme will join in and let us have her views on Dentastix
I love dogs with human names, especially male ones. Dennis and Colin both great. If we'd had a male dog I wanted to call him Dave, husband not impressed though. As it happened we bought a female and named her Evie, partly to remind me of my mum who was called Evelyn and died when Evie was six...
Thanks Josie. That was really helpful. So it sounds as though Evie should be just about fully grown. I was going to say adult but I'm not sure she's behaving like an adult just yet! Love the name Dennis.
Evie is now 18 months and took her to be weighed recently and she is still gaining weight. Not massively but steadily. At what age do you think her weight should settle down and stay consistent? As she is a cross breed (show cocker spaniel/miniature poodle) there is obviously no breed...
A nice idea Joanne. I will try to remember to take my phone with me when we go out. We are very lucky to live in the middle of the South Downs with lots of lovely walks. Evie loves the beach and will make a beeline for any water, cold & filthy she's not fussy. Had recent holiday in North...
I know this is a dog forum but thought you might like to see photos of our cat Izzy, enjoying the TV. Mind you since Evie the dog arrived her life is a little more stressful and she has less time for relaxing in front of TV!
Evie generally ignores TV, she might sit up of there's an interesting noise. However our cat is very interested. We have even at times put a chair in front of TV so she can sit and watch more easily. Usually animal programmes!
He did come along to most of them to watch. He is getting better at rewarding correctly and to be fair I think that Evie will ignore me if I'm competing against manure or pheasants! Mind you I think I anticipate better and will distract if I see a potential hazard. I've now printed off all...
Sounds good Gypsysmum. Evie and I did the 5 week recall course with distractions. Enjoyable and wish we'd found this trainer when we first started our training journey! Still a work in progress and today my husband was not impressed with Evie at all - apparently she decided that the cheese in...
