ive yet to find a dog nappy that doesnt fall off and that covers his "ehem" parts. as to the carrier thats a no go for the same reason he's never been crated.
the reason this is really concerning for me is because he and i love going to the nursing home and the last time we went he pooed in...
So this is going to be a long thread with a lot of backstory for a very simple question.
When I first got Bax at 8 months he'd never set foot inside. All he knew was pottying wherever he pleased outside.
I brought him home and immediately brought him into an environment that was full of...
well he's back on regular poops. poops twice a day, solid, no blood. i've done so little im tempted to say he just recovered on his own.
i DIDNT do the high fiber diet.
i HAVE given him pumpkin with every meal.
i gave him....two? pills but i keep forgetting them and i think im going to...
i talked to him about raw and he didnt like raw because it didn't have the full spread of alllll the nutrients. it wasnt the bone or the salmonella he didnt like.
and agree, im not super worried about his guts being misplaced given that a change in diet fixed everything.
im not closed to the...
and we're back.
I came out with a "try this and see."
he recommended additional blood testing looking specifically at white blood cell count, but more pressingly an ultrasound of the abdomen.
he backed off on both those things though and set me up with a different plan to try for a week or...
His behavior is way different today to. normally he doesnt give a fig for me but he's been following me around and whenever i stop moving he lays down. definitly not feeling great.
Well maybe it WASNT that. been a week after he popped his pills and hes gotten a lot worse. pooped six times on our walk (normally only once) and 2-3 of those times was just straight blood. calling the vt again tomarrow...
Nope! looks like I'm all set!
Extremely likely. he's never been medicated for it though which makes me wonder why it disappeared and then came back.....
we have an answer! they called me today. fecal sample came back. Hook worm. i came in immediately and they gave me a big dose of SOMETHING (two pills) and recommended that since he probably picked it up just walking around the neighborhood that he go on a year-round interceptor dose. so problem...
finally got in contact with the vet
1) fecal sample dropped off tomorrow
2) vet appointment Monday evening
3) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SWITCH HIM BACK TO RAW
she was very adamant on the last point. I'm tempted to think she's one of those that don't like raw..... but she has the degree so I'm...
thanks for your kind words guys. i still think i'm going to take him to the vet on the off chance that maybe a simple med might fix it or a dif kind of kibble might be better but i do feel better about what i think will inevitably my decision to feed bax raw again.
........ he does love...
yeah i have a sneaking suspicion its going to be raw to. but im going to do my due diligence to assuage my conscience and take him to the vet. if i dont hear anything super compelling about other options its gonna be raw again.
its hard though because im essentially saying that my dogs life is...
For those of you that haven't been with Bax from the beginning, I got him from a really crummy breeder and I 100% blame all his gut issues on them.
From the beginning he pooped blood. just a little bit every so often. I got him in September I think. On Christmas eve I dragged my new puppy to...
Bax usually acts hyper excited when he sees another dog. i know Dominance is a bad D word around here but when he "plays" it 100% looks like a competition to see whos top dog. he usually isnt fearful it's just this one big oaf that he's afraid of. im def going to bring alot of treats and find...
So Bax has gone from super dog-friendly and sucky with humans to awesome with humans and sucky with dogs. I've been very careful for some time with him to limit dog/dog interaction given a few growls and snarks on his part indicating a general lack of interest.
Today we were going on our usual...
yeah im careful to, like for the bedside visits i try to limit it so he doesnt climb all over and i try not to let him stand in peoples laps. ill usually just pick him up and hold him. i do like the idea of a nice thick blanket in peoples laps though, that might work.
