    The Dog Academy

I concur with so much of what’s been stated here. I did watch yesterday’s “Dog Academy” and, certainly not for the first time, was amazed at people’s/owners’ ignorance. I think as Feverfew said, “….they are there as entertainment, not as serious advice”. I don’t mean to sound ‘better than thou’...

    Dry shampoo for carpets

Flobo, many thanks for the warning. Will do a check and a half or see if I can buy bicarb in industrial size quantities! Just been watching the tribute to Paul O’ Grady on ITV 1 (For the Love of Dogs), clutching hankie. What a lovely man.

    Dry shampoo for carpets

You’re both so very kind. We do use a Vax but only when our weather is kinder. It’s a dry jobbie that’s required at the moment. It’s just occurred to me that something like that ‘Shake ‘n Vac’ may do the trick. I remember the T.V ad with that lovely lady that was the subject of so many boys’...

    Dry shampoo for carpets

Seeking help from the Forum. We have carpets as opposed to hard floors. We also have a whippet. Has anyone used a dry shampoo successfully? Although Mabel doesn’t have a smell we’re aware that textiles may have a slight whiff. She’ll be having a bath when the weather improves but we need to...

Rest in Peace, Jimmy. My Beautiful Boy, My Best Friend

I can’t add anything to what’s already been said. My thoughts are with you both. You’ve both (Mygirlbud and arealhuman) enjoyed the best ever and, yes you’ll miss them but they are no longer in discomfort nor pain and that release was through your kindness. Spiritual hugs.

    Anyone watching the Apprentice ?

Oh rats! I meant “And that’s another thing…….”.

    Anyone watching the Apprentice ?

I’m afraid that I’m also despairing of a lot of stuff on the T.V. From limited experience Reality T.V. just seems to give a voice to the uncouth, discourteous and downright ignorant. I once watched Celebrity Mastermind which almost had me on the ‘phone to the Samaritans - what a sorry...

New Member Improbable Advice From Vet?

Yes, it’s a shame that greed or a desire for ‘the easy buck’ seems to take precedence with a certain type over the wellbeing of animals - home breeding, puppy farms, etc. Best of luck.

New Member Improbable Advice From Vet?

I stand to be corrected but I would question the professional qualification of their vet. I stand with all the responders here - I have never come across such an irresponsible attitude to the wellbeing of animals.

    Muzzle training going well

Public transport rules? Obviously I don’t get out much. Does it apply to all breeds or sizes? On holiday in the U.K. we use buses and/or ferries.

I love whippets. We’ve only ever had rescues. Such gentle dogs.

    Whippet excercise

The fact that you are allowing her to exercise herself should be fine but I’d add that I’m no expert - we’ve only ever had rescued whippets although our first, which we found on the side of the road, was about six months old. As they have limited stamina I’d have thought that their own...

His blood test should show whether his medication needs adjusting or whether his current demeanour has any connection with his medication. My wife, may her name be praised if not feared, is conversant with the same condition as she has to manage it for herself - not that she’s as fast as a...

What do I look for in a good vet

….but he’s no longer suffering nor holding any grudges.

    Warm lurcher

Well he’s landed on his feet. And no dew claws, what luck! I had to take Mabel to the vet on Friday as she’d twisted one right around but she didn’t even whimper. I repeat, that’s a lovely sighthound you’ve got.

    Crufts

I thought the dog seemed ´out of it’, didn’t appear to know what was going on. If we’re talking about the same dog it seemed to me like a small furry prop with a pulse. I’m not happy with designer type animals. Just put it down to grumpy intolerance, I’m sure they’re all loved to bits.

Yes, coiffure was somewhat striking. Earlier a woman holding a tiny dog was being interviewed by the young lady (commentator) in the wheelchair. What breed was that dog?

    Wow! He’s magnificent.

I take your point, JudyN. Is this a case of profit or kudos taking precedence over the dog’s comfort/wellbeing? If so I’d back your stance but where does it end?
