Take a wander through the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle to connect with the wisdom of our ancestors through a history that is more often glimpsed and hinted at than understood. The Museum goes beyond the stereotype of the crone and the media horror stories to explore the real world of witchcraft and the magic makers: the wayside witches and wise women, the cunning men, the traditional healers and charmers (many of whom still practice their magic today).
Peer into the beyond in our forest at night-time gallery, where you will come face to face with piskies, tree sprites, Green Men, Horned Gods and Goddesses. Find out about the power of sacred sites in the Cornish landscape and the connection of witchcraft with the sea.
Normal mirrors reflect this world but peering into a dark mirror may enable you to see into another world or time or place. Find out about other ways people have tried to uncover hidden, unknowable knowledge such as Ouija boards, tarot cards, crystal balls and palm reading.
Children find the Museum fascinating – many are surprised to know how many objects in the stories they read have actually been used by real witches. We have a large collection of mandrakes, broomsticks and a bezoar stone – a must for all Harry Potter fans!
So whether it is herbs and healings, spells and charms, amulets and talismans, protection magic or something a little darker – with nearly 4000 objects the Museum has something to intrigue and inspire everyone! Enter and find out why we are one of Cornwall’s oldest and most popular Museums.
